small band work

From 1994 to 1998, I was a founder member, saxophonist and composer with the modern jazz quartet 'Beats Working'. The ensemble performed a diverse programme of original material with influences ranging from European "Classical" music to the music of Latin America, from mainstream to contemporary jazz. Over the last four years I have been working extensively with the singer and my partner "Julie Edwards" www.JulieEdwards.com producing and featuring on three CD's "Eden" ,"Connections" & "Rhyme Or Reason". All three of these having title tracks penned by me and of course Julie.

big band work

One of my first gigs was as first tenor with the Doncaster Youth Jazz Orchestra. While I was studying at the Royal Northern College of Music I was lucky enough to perform with their prestigious big band. I first held the baritone chair and then the first tenor chair. This gave me the oportunity to back many top artists such as Bobby Shew, Lou Tabackin, Stan Sulzman and Victor Mendoza. In 1994 I joined the modern jazz big band lead by trombonist Ken Poulton, playing tenor and soprano saxophone.

session and season work

I have performed on many commercial, summer season and theatre dates - one of the most noteworthy being at the Sporting Club of Monte Carlo. As a member of the house big band I backed a number of visiting artists, including Shirley Bassey, Barry White and Paul Anka. I have also completed many UK based contracts for band leaders and commercial entertainment groups such as the Warner Brothers group etc. etc.
